IN PERSON
โEvery movement of the mind, and every emotional reaction, is still just a small wave on the vast surface of the awakened mind.โ โMingyur Rinpoche
Emotions can be so intense. Sometimes, it can feel like theyโre in the driverโs seat, careening wildly from one extreme to the other. These struggles often stem from a lack of understanding of the nature of emotions and how to effectively work with them. How can we use emotions themselves as doorways to greater well-being?
Drawing on ancient wisdom teachings and his personal experiences, world-renowned meditation teacher Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will offer insights into understanding the nature of emotions, developing emotional resilience, and cultivating a more peaceful and fulfilling life.
About Mingyur Rinpoche
Mingyur Rinpoche is a world-renowned meditation teacher with personal experience of anxiety and panic attacks, which he suffered from throughout his childhood and into his teenage years, when he learned to transform his panic through meditation.
Born in Nepal in 1975, Mingyur Rinpoche began to study meditation as a young boy with his father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, himself a well-respected Buddhist teacher.
As a child he became interested in contemporary science through conversations with scientists who were visiting his father, and as he grew older he began to collaborate with neuroscientists and psychologists, including Richard Davidson and Antoine Lutz at the University of Wisconsin, on research projects that study the effects of meditation on the brain and the mind.
Mingyur Rinpocheโs first book, The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness, debuted on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into over twenty languages. His second book, Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom, explores how difficult emotions and challenging life situations can be used as stepping stones to discover joy and freedom. In his most recent book, In Love with the World, Mingyur Rinpoche shares how his meditation practice sustained him when he left his monastery to wander through India and the powerfully transformative insights he gained from the near-death experience he had at the beginning of his journey.
As the head of the Tergar Meditation Community, Mingyur Rinpoche supports groups of students in more than thirty countries, leading workshops around the world for new and returning students every year.
About the Event
During this weekend workshop with Mingyur Rinpoche we will discover how to use the energy and richness of our emotional life as a path to inner peace and balance, as a source of warm-hearted compassion, and finally, as profound wisdom.
There will also be discussions with Tergar instructors Myoshin and Edwin Kelley, as well as guided meditations and Q&A sessions.
Why Should I attend
Many of us are experiencing challenging life circumstances where we can often feel overwhelmed, confused, and plagued by strong emotions. These teachings offer a way to be with our emotions that is no longer based on reactivity. They teach us to tap into the source of our innate well-being that helps us dispel our confusion and distress.
What will I learn?
You will learn practical meditation techniques to uncover what has always been within youโyour innate qualities of awareness, love & compassion, and wisdom. These inherent qualities will enable a clearer understanding of emotions as they truly are. Instead of identifying with or resisting them, participants will cultivate the ability to open to their emotions and no longer be ruled by them.

About Your Tergar Instructors, Myoshin and Edwin Kelley
Edwin Kelley
Edwin Kelley attended his first meditation retreat near Perth, Australia in 1975. He later pursued a career as a public accountant and in 1992 went to Burma to undertake a six-month period of intensive meditation practice with meditation master Chanmyay Sayadaw. While practicing in Burma he ordained temporarily as a Buddhist monk.
In 1994 he was hired as Director of Operations by one of Americaโs best known meditation retreat centers, the Insight Meditation Society (IMS), in Barre, MA. Eighteen months later he was appointed Executive Director of IMS and served in that capacity until 2003 when he resigned to pursue further long-term intensive meditation practice.
Edwin first encountered Vajrayana Buddhism in Dharamsala, India in 1993 and became a student of Mingyur Rinpoche in 1998. He has a post graduate diploma in Buddhist Studies from the University of Sunderland in the UK.
In 2009, Edwin and his wife Myoshin, moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to help establish the global Tergar Meditation Community, where he then served variably as Executive, and Co-Executive Director, and CFO, until retiring from his administrative role with Tergar International at the end of 2022. He now lives on the Sapphire Coast in southern NSW, Australia.
Myoshin Kelley
At a young age, Myoshin decided that school could not teach her what she wanted to know and decided that life would be her teacher. This led her to a lifelong journey of living in spiritual communities while exploring the inner terrain of being human.
Myoshin received dharma instruction from renowned Buddhist teachers Chanmyay Sayadaw, Sayadaw U Pandita, Sayadaw U Tejaniya, and Hogen Yamahata. She also developed a great love of retreats and at one point temporarily ordained as a nun in Myanmar.
Myoshinโs training as a meditation teacher began with Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg at the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in 1994. She was appointed the teacher in residence at the Forest Refuge, the long-term practice center at IMS, in 2003.
In 1998, Myoshin was introduced to Mingyur Rinpoche. Twelve years later she moved to Minneapolis to help Rinpoche and others with the formation of Tergar Meditation Community. For a decade she led the team to oversee the formation of Tergar meditation groups and the training of Tergar community leaders. As a Tergar instructor, Myoshin leads programs that experientially explore how the practice of meditation and the wisdom of an open heart support the path of awakening.
Nature has been a strong teacher and support for Myoshin throughout her life. She loves to do solitary retreats in nature as well as hike, bike, cross-country ski, and now swim in the ocean on the beautiful Sapphire Coast in Australia, where she lives with her husband Edwin.
